Life happens to all of us so we all need what I'm about to share. It may be the loss of something or someone dear, disappointment, poverty, guilt or outright failure, we all from time to time experience hellish moments and there is none immune to life's bitchiness. Jesus said, in this world you will face many (not few) tribulations and Paul said no temptation comes upon you but such as is common to man.
The troubles aren't my focus today, your response is.
What makes you think you're suffering? Recently I met someone who was in severe mental torture. She believed her life was not worth much and the biggest tragedy she could point to was the loss of her job. Despite the fact that she had savings worth more than 12 times her monthly pay, her mind was in full panic mode. Not minding that she can live comfortably for another 24 months without an income, she still was absolutely hysterical. In her mind, a million negative future occurences and worst-case scenarios including the ones where she's homeless and she's in need of emergency medical care that she cannot afford have been concocted. She's almost certain they will happen.
Someone can believe something that is completely false and also detrimental to their mental health and still hold unto it and not let go. This is the definition of a stronghold.
What do you do when life wants to make you cower in defeat, when circumstances try to bend you over? Fight! Yes, fight back. The battle is first won in the mind. Everything is about your attitude. If the front door won't let you in, breakdown the back door. Do what you have to do, just make sure you're not put down in your mind. Cry, shout, work hard, make friends, lose some, do whatever you have to do, only make sure you're not sitting down and letting life pass you by because you have allowed misery settle in your bones.
This is not some naive overblown sentimental advice designed to cover up a much bigger problem you may have, but a sincere guidance to a place of peace and wholeness.
Everything is in the mind and your victory starts with what you believe.
Accepting and holding as true anything or anyone who thinks or says you can't be all you want to be is opening doors to misery and suffering.
Within you lies unimaginable power and underneath you are the everlasting arms. That power within you is the fountain that waters your very existence. To deny that power by accepting contrary notions and allowing self doubt take hold is the ultimate recipe for unhappiness.
I agree that people have real problems and not everything is concocted in the brain and accepted by the mind. It is true that as you get closer to your destiny, the battles will get tougher, opposition will get fiercer and hell generally will let loose. I also believe that as you get on higher grounds, the road will get steeper but still your path is your path. Your spirit knows exactly where your path is leading even if your mind can't grasp it.
You're a piece of a much bigger puzzle and in the grand scheme of things your piece of the puzzle matters for the universe to be able to present a complete picture.
So when due to tragedy or failure there is a detour in your journey, be rest assured that your destination never changes. Therefore keep going. You're not missing out on anything. It's an illusion to think your life would be better if you've made different choices. All the ‘should have’ and ‘could have’ scenarios are not real. Your life is your life and it's never better or worse. It just is.
Let this understanding put your mind at rest.
Coulda, woulda, shoulda... The three limiting beliefs that keep us in regrets and shrink our thinking... Thank you for this reminder that we are just a piece of a greater puzzle, orchestrated by the master himself.
Hmmm!...really a dynamite for exploding fear & complacency, it's a cocktail of strenght. All mirror house of negative introspection shatters, we can see clearly now. Thanks for the encouragement dispensed, it's a good drink. Cheers!
