In the middle of the night, none is depending on you to be someone else. There are less or no distractions, assignments or deliverables. It’s just you, your thoughts and time. Your visions hedge clearer and the body isn't a determinant of your inward journey but your mind.
What do you see and how far do you travel? What limits or ails you? Would it be you or other people's expectations of you? Do you swear that you truly understand and appreciate the truth that this your life is yours? And that the greater responsibility to make the most of your time on this terrestrial ball sits with you?
Do you feel like you owe the world something that's not in you to give? How pressured are you to be flawless? What if I say you don't owe anyone perfection or superbness?
I've always believed putting people on unnecessary pedestals is as bad as kicking them to the curb. The man on the ground is already down and need fear no fall. The other man however is saddled daily with the pressure of measuring up and the fear of failure.
Pedestals come with labels that forces us to forget who we truly are. Those labels are direct expectations of how to behave, think or even relate with the world. These expectations are edged in our neural pathways due to several years of conscious and unconscious programming. We've owned them and even passed them along.
Today make a conscious effort to be the real you. Don't wake up wanting to be who you're expected to be. Rather, let your authenticity shine through. Be exactly who you are for it is a tragedy to be loved for who you're not. Own your truth, every single bit because when the music stops, the spotlight gone and you're alone in the dark, you're still who you are. So why not give yourself the liberty to breathe whether in the light or under the shadows.
I believe we cannot become who we’re inherently not designed to be. The good, the bad and the ugly, everything is designed in the right proportions to make you uniquely awesome. There's no point, trying to make your weaknesses become strength. You can only master them enough for them not to limit your growth.
Chimamanda Adichie said, "there's nothing more beautiful than waking up everyday and holding in your hands the full measure of your integrity".
The roles are good. The titles sometimes are good but at the end of the day, you still must allow your entire essence shine through. Not just when it's comfortable, but also when it is difficult.
Thou shalt not be anyone's poster child.
