"It's not the load that breaks you down, it's the way you carry it”.
- Lou Holtz
Before now, I used to think about all issues from a very practical and logical place. Aside that I'm wired that way, my job training also demands that I have a register for issues. My younger self did maintain a spreadsheet for my life. I kept records of everything and designed execution or resolution road maps. When things fall through inspite all my worry induced planning, I get extremely frustrated and unhappy.
It took me a while to accept that life is not always straightforward. Even Paul the Apostle spoke about the fact that there are unreasonable people in this world. Sometimes life is just a very big pot of beans that no school can prepare you for.
We all carry loads. Some have just mastered how to carry theirs without getting worn out. This week, let God's peace mount a garrison around your heart and mind. Your situation is not unique to you for there is no temptation that's befallen you but such as is common to man. You'll be fine.
If you're that person that worry too much, overanalysizes everything, creates imaginary blockages, always thinking worst case scenario, let this week be the beginning of your deliverance. Let the heavens fall, you'll be fine.
Take a moment to breathe. Whenever you notice that you’ve mentally left the present and you're worried about the future, stop whatever you're doing and breathe deeply. Acknowledge the little blessings that you're grateful for right then, in that moment.
Do not fear. It has no value. Fearing the worst doesn't affect the outcome, why add to your misery?
Judge nothing. Remain aware, practice mindfulness and resist the nagging urge to fix things. Sometimes just being and letting things be are the best courses of action. It's OK to question everything. However, it's not OK to obsess about finding answers and logical conclusions to everything. There are many things in life that we cannot fully comprehend and that's OK too.
Do what you love. Don't just invest time in serious activities that tend towards your purpose but also mundane things that give you joy. Discern what increases your positive affectivity and invest a lot of time doing them. For instance, I enjoying dancing to loud afrobeat music in a dark lit shower. I do this a lot. Find those things that give you some good break from the world. Whatever you do, your mind and mental health should be well looked after.
Lastly, be yourself. The world will adjust.
Thank you Òtunba, you spoke to me in this article. Gracias
Thank you, Nathaniel... This is refreshing, or rather, more like liberating!
